What is a "Feast Day"? Presentation Sisters celebrate the day of their baptism when they became a member of the Catholic Faith. We joyfully celebrate this day and pray that the seed of faith received on that day will continue to flourish.
What is a "Profession Day"? This is the day when the candidate for Religious Profession vows to live the life of a Presentation Sister. She also takes simple vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.
Who is the "Foundress" of the Presentation Sisters? Honora Nagle (Nano) was a single woman who saw the need of the people of Ireland. She sought out a group of women to assist the people and to follow the teachings of the Gospels. She is called a Foundress since she began a group to minister to the people and to live a common life to accomplish these goals.
What is meant by "Community"? A Community is formed when the Sisters live together to share their resources, enrich their spirituality, challenge each other to go beyond their expectations and enjoy friendships. The central core of a Community is our relationship with Our God.
In what types of work are Presentation Sisters engaged? Teaching, hospital/nursing work, parish ministry, missionary service, administration, outreach to anyone suffering under oppression, working to raise people out of poverty are just a few of the services of the Sisters.
Are there other Presentation Sisters? The Presentation Sisters are an International Congregation and serve in 23 countries around the world.
What training is needed to become a Presentation Sister? A woman desiring to enter the Community must first have a deep inner desire to serve God. This inner calling is enhanced with studies concerning the community heritage, spirituality, scripture studies and continuing studies to strengthen the ministry.
May I visit a Sister who is living at the Motherhouse? The Sisters welcome visitors and are always pleased to visit with former students and friends. It is good to call and make an appointment for the visit.
What is the formal name of the Community? The formal name is the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We celebrate our Community Feast on November 21st.
Are the Presentation Sisters involved in Social Justice issues? Yes the Sisters are very involved in these issues. We have a world wide network of Justice Contacts that diligently work to end the oppression of people.
